This was my first visit to Kyoto in a year.
The last time I visited, it was too hot to walk around, so I decided to go in winter (early December).
I left after dropping my family off at a short stay facility, so I arrived late at night.
First day Transfer – Arrival at hotel
When I arrived at the hotel, there were many foreign people relaxing in the common lobby.
At that time, the new coronavirus was not yet as serious as it is now, so there were many tourists from overseas.
The hotel we used this time was「SAKURA TERRACE THE GALLERY」.
The hotel is only a 3-minute walk from Kyoto Station and has a stylish atrium structure.
I forgot to take pictures of the rooms, but they were spacious and clean.

Day 2 Sightseeing
We started sightseeing on the second day.
Go to Ryoanji Temple to see the famous stone garden.
First, we went to Ryoanji Temple, famous for its stone garden.。
This stone garden, which is also a World Heritage Site, has 15 stones of various sizes, but they are arranged so that only 14 stones can be seen from any direction.
I heard that the number 15 is the number that indicates completion, and completion is the beginning of the end, so the 14 stones are always visible as if they are unfinished.
After that, we went to lunch while wandering around the town.
Lunch: Delicious Kyoto-style oyakodon
I really liked the Kyoto-style oyako-don (chicken and egg rice bowl) with its rich broth when I stopped by Kyoto before, so this time I researched a restaurant that seemed to have a good reputation beforehand and went there.
This time, we went to Gion Shimogawara Hisago.
We arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes before the opening time because according to the prior information, the restaurant has a long queue.
There were already a lot of people waiting when we arrived, but luckily we were able to enter the restaurant at the same time it opened.

HISAGO’s Oyako-don
I took a few random pictures with my smartphone camera, so the photos didn’t look very good, but the oyako-don (chicken and egg bowl) was very tasty, with a lot of broth, just like Kyoto style. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.
Dinner: In search of obanzai in Ponto-cho
After returning to the hotel for a rest, we went out for dinner.
Obanzai is a term used to describe prepared foods that have been made in Kyoto households since ancient times.
Whenever I come to Kyoto, I usually go to Ponto-cho for dinner, and this time was no exception.
It’s a small restaurant, so I won’t mention the name, but they serve really delicious Kyoto vegetables.
All the dishes were very delicious.
We walked back to the hotel and went to bed that day.
The next day, I bought some souvenirs for my friends and left for home in the morning.
I’ve been to Kyoto more than 10 times, including business trips, but there are so many places to see.
There are still many places I would like to visit, and I would like to visit them again.
